Shortening a Membership

When you change the membership renewal date to an EARLIER date than the current renewal date listed, you shorten the current membership period.

For example, a membership is set to renew on August 11, 2023, and you change the renewal date to August 9, 2023. You have shortened the length of the membership.

Shortening a membership reduces the number of days in a membership period and you might owe your customers a refund.

For Stripe memberships: When shortening a membership, Punchpass will automatically refund that amount on the NEXT invoice your customer pays. You can click Remove Credit if you do not wish to apply that amount to the next invoice.

For non-Stripe memberships, you can adjust (shorten or extend) the membership period as many times as you wish!

Need to shorten a membership billing period again?

After shortening a membership, a message box will appear prompting you to remove the credit. You'll need to remove the credit the system has saved by clicking the "remove credit" button before you can shorten the billing period for a Stripe membership again.

Extending a Membership

When you change the current membership pass renewal date to a date further into the future, you EXTEND the length of the current membership period.

For example, a membership is set to renew on January 20, 2023. You change the renewal date to January 30, 2023. You have extended the length of the membership.

This can be used as a way to 'pause' a membership for just a few days, or add more time to a membership as a credit. All memberships can be extended multiple times during a membership period.

When a membership's renewal date is EXTENDED, Punchpass doesn't add a credit or pro-rate the upcoming invoice. The length of the current pass is simply longer.

Each time the renewal date is changed, Punchpass adds a note to the membership pass.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the renewal date for the last pass of a membership?

Yes, you can modify the renewal date for a final membership pass. To extend the current (final) pass without creating a new renewal, follow these steps:

  1. Open the member’s membership details page.

  2. Edit the Renewal Date to the desired future date (e.g., 1–2 weeks later).

  3. Save the changes. The expiration will adjust to match the new renewal date. Regardless of whether the membership is extended or contracted, Punchpass will not grant the customer any 'credit' since there are no more future charges.
