Instead of offering a customer a refund, there are scenarios where you might prefer to offer an account credit to the customer.

Each customer membership paid through Stripe has a credit balance and you can apply a credit to memberships.

A credit adjustment means that the customer will owe you less money.

For more details about this feature, please review the article: https://stripe.com/docs/invoicing/customer/balance

How to apply a credit to memberships in Punchpass

Note: This only applies to memberships paid through Stripe in Punchpass.

1. Make a note on the customer account

Navigate to the customer account and select the membership. This will open the membership details page. We recommend making a note to indicate the credit amount.

2. Apply the credit to the customer account in Stripe

In Stripe, search for the customer account (you might find it easier to search by the customer by email address.)

This takes you to the customer overview page. Please check to make sure the customer ID in Stripe matches the customer ID on their membership page:

This will be reflecting in the customer page URL on Stripe:

Now, depending on your Stripe account you might have a three-dot button or an actions dropdown in the top-right corner.

  • If you have a three-dot button in the top right, click this button, and select the option to Adjust credit balance to apply the desired credit amount.

  • If you have an Actions dropdown, click this, and select the option to Adjust credit balance to apply the desired credit amount.

3. The customer payment experience

When the next invoice comes due, Stripe will use the account credit to pay the invoice before charging the customer.

We recommend reviewing all transactions and memberships in Punchpass paid this way for your recordkeeping.
